We are thrilled to have received two gold awards at the Best Awards evening last Friday. 339 and our studio both took out awards in the spatial category!
The Best Awards are run by The Designers Institute New Zealand and celebrate excellence in graphic, spatial, interactive and motion design.
The festival of Architecture is now in it's final week, but there's still lots of exiting events to attend. Members of the SGA team are involved in various talks and discussions happening this week.
The first is Tikanga Maori in Architecture, tomorrow morning, bright and early at 7am, five emerging architectural practitioners, including Hana Scott will discuss a growing bi-cultural approach and the integration of Maori values into architecture.
Tomorrow evening Maria Hosking joins a group of architects and designers for a quick six minute presentation on the collaborative prefabrication project with Architecture+Women.
Finally on Saturday afternoon the Architects' Studios presentation is an informal discussion about different studios approaches to architecture. Fritha Hobbs will be there to discuss SGA's architectural attitudes.
This Saturday from 11-2 our studio will be welcoming visitors for coffee and scones as part of the festival of architecture's Architects' Studio event. This is a great chance to have a look around our office and learn about the architectural process, or just pop in and say hi!
The workshop downstairs will be busy with Motu Kaikoura build, so you can observe the building process too.
The Motu Kaikoura Building Workshop is well underway with a wonderful group of architects building a new community hub for Kaikoura Island off Great Barrier.
SGA, in association with Architecture + Women are facilitating this construction education programme. The majority of the new building is being pre-fabricated in the SGA workshop, and will replace a building which was destroyed by arson in 2013. If you're interested in helping out, the Motu Kaikoura trust has started a give a little page.
Here are a few photos of the progress and learning so far.....
Congratulations and thank you to everyone who helped made these buildings happen, especially Ross and Brad from our team, the builders at Crate Innovation and SGLA who took care of the landscape architecture.
A full list of winners and the jury citations for all winning projects can be found here on ArchitectureNOW
With the growing number of projects, we welcome a new Architect to the team, Hana Scott. Hana joined us in February and recently became an NZRAB Registered Architect. We welcome her fresh perspective and expertise, and she will of course be a great help to other Architectural Graduates within the office wanting to learn about the registration process.
SGA took part in the Auckland Transport Bike Challenge which ran for the month of February. Safe to say our custom-built bike shed and calf muscles have been put to great use. Thanks to Blend Cafe for loaning us one of their Tokyo Bikes for a time! Here you can see the bikes and our new Hungry Bin worm farms tucked into the shelter by the office.
