In December we gathered for the official opening of Triangle Road Housing Development, ten new affordable medium density homes for VisionWest Community Housing. The north-facing, high performing homes were opened by Paula Bennett, just in time for Christmas for ten families in need. These homes feature passive solar design, thermal mass and voluminous light filled spaces, integrated with community gardens and implemented with prefabricated building components. The project is currently being photographed and will be on our website shortly.
This years Studio 19 project, oneCOMMUNITY SHED for Cook Islands Development Agency New Zealand (CIDANZ) was momentously opened three weeks ago with a morning of moving blessings, singing and dancing performances and a well earned feast! The existing shed has been given a new life, with the ability to cater for a variety of functions, filled with warmth, natural light and island flavour. The sixteen Unitec Architecture students excelled in enthusiasm, most certainly evoked by the infectious energy and emotion of the CIDANZ team that made the real world experience an inspirational one for our future architects. You can learn more about the project on our Facebook page here.

Congratulations to all NZIA Local Awards 2015 recipients! The SGA team went along to the Auckland Architecture Awards evening held at Motat Aviation Hall (a wonderful building in itself) late last month. The high standard of work was impressive, it's great to see so many new exceptional buildings contributing to our city, you can see an overview here.
Boatsheds came through with an award in the Housing category. Thanks to all involved, particularly clients Greg Lee and both client and collaborative architect Rachel Rush and talented builder Gary Bonham.
Boatsheds will now go on to be considered for the NZIA National Awards later this year...albeit against some stiff competition! The project also recently won Best NZ Architect Designed Kitchen in the Trends Kitchen Awards.
