Te Hihi is a recently completed rural home in the rolling landscape of Karaka. Photographed by Simon Devitt and styled by Amelia Holmes, you can now view the project here. Many thanks to our amazing clients for allowing us to capture their exquisite home.
In December we gathered for the official opening of Triangle Road Housing Development, ten new affordable medium density homes for VisionWest Community Housing. The north-facing, high performing homes were opened by Paula Bennett, just in time for Christmas for ten families in need. These homes feature passive solar design, thermal mass and voluminous light filled spaces, integrated with community gardens and implemented with prefabricated building components. The project is currently being photographed and will be on our website shortly.
In place of a typical Christmas Party this year, we recently took an extended field trip to sunny Nelson. Hosted by our friends at IS Architects, our weekend consisted of Pecha Kucha style presentations on Friday night, sharing ideas and design solutions, and then a full Saturday tour of their inspiring work and other local architecture.
Congratulations to James O'Toole who is now a Registered Architect! Hard work and determination pay off and we are very proud of him. Congratulations also to Maria who recently received a special award from the Unitec Dean of Research and Enterprise, in recognition for her academic achievement and excellence in research.
Given the influx of new staff members over the past year, an updated team photo was in order. Taken at 339, a new house under construction on Mount Eden Road, you can follow the progress on our website here.
This years Studio 19 project, oneCOMMUNITY SHED for Cook Islands Development Agency New Zealand (CIDANZ) was momentously opened three weeks ago with a morning of moving blessings, singing and dancing performances and a well earned feast! The existing shed has been given a new life, with the ability to cater for a variety of functions, filled with warmth, natural light and island flavour. The sixteen Unitec Architecture students excelled in enthusiasm, most certainly evoked by the infectious energy and emotion of the CIDANZ team that made the real world experience an inspirational one for our future architects. You can learn more about the project on our Facebook page here.
Design development for a new beach front holiday home
Resource Consent for two affordable multi-unit housing developments in Auckland are now in and processing with the Housing Project Office.
Tony Van Raat had a brilliant idea to record the evolution of the Studio 19 Project over the past eight years in a small publication, for which we gathered to celebrate it's launch last Friday at the construction site of our new premises. The limited edition book captures each annual 'design, document & build' project from 2008 - 2014 and includes guest essays from Van himself, Dave, (the builders) Cocksy and James Strachan, clients and students. Produced by Di Curtis and edited by Stephen Stratford, this special little book is in hot demand but we do have a few left for anyone out there especially interested.
